The 10 best beaches for kids in Sardinia
Fabrizio

In my life I have had the good fortune to be born and raised in the wonderful place that is Sardinia.
I have always loved discovering new beaches in the enchanting coasts of Sardinia, and over the years I have explored several very picturesque ones.
Even though the vicissitudes of life have since taken me away from my beloved land, I can say that I know its territory very well and have explored it with ever renewed interest. Sardinia is in fact a very large region, capable of surprising you when you least expect it, even in the places less known by mass tourism.
Very recently, life surprised me again by bringing my firstborn son Martin into my life. Hence arose the need to understand, which among the beaches I know of my beloved island best suit the little ones and are most suitable for them.
From these experiences of mine was born this little guide, useful both if Sardinia is your favorite vacation destination and if you have decided for the first time this year to go and discover its hidden treasures in the company of your children.
So here is my personal top 10 of the most child-friendly beaches in Sardinia.

#1 Su Giudeu beach in Chia

We are located in Chia in southern Sardinia, in one of the most popular areas for tourism.
The beach of Su Giudeu is a true paradise: a long stretch of sand on a crystal clear sea with various shades from light blue to deep blue.
The area is particularly well served and any service needed on vacation is available: there are numerous hotels and apartments for rent in the area, as well as seafood bars and restaurants.
The beach of Su Giudeu is particularly suitable for children because of its fine, golden sands, the slowly sloping shoreline, and the presence of beach facilities.
A nice feature of this corner of Sardinia, is that its land is particularly fertile and the fruit grown in the area has a truly exceptional flavor.
Stop along the access road at one of the small fruit stands present and taste figs, peaches or melons. You will not regret it!

#2 Simius beach in Villasimius

We find ourselves this time in the southeastern part of Sardinia, in one of the best-known towns in the area, namely Villasimius.
The Simius beach is a real pearl of the area, just a short walk from the town center.
The beach is very well protected from the wind and ideal even when a strong mistral blows on the island, which makes many other beaches on the island impassable.
The sand of Simius is fine and golden and the sea here acquires a color that varies from light blue to a deep blue that leaves the viewer completely breathless.
There is no shortage of facilities on the beach, and I think we do not need to add so many more words. Just pause for a second to imagine your children happily playing on this sand-it will surely be an unforgettable experience!

#3 Maladroxia beach in Sant'Antioco

On the southwestern coast of Sardinia, however, lies the beautiful island of Sant'Antioco.
Sant'Antioco is a fishing island, not overly touristy and connected to the mainland by an ancient bridge.
To reach it, therefore, you will not need to take a ferry, but you can get there comfortably by car.
Maladroxia is perhaps the most famous beach on the island. A very nice beach with a beautiful sea and many facilities at hand.
Fun and convenience are assured here: water sports, beach volleyball, buses and large parking available.
Add fine, almost white sand and a sea with unique transparency and you're done.
The assurance is that your children will love this place, full of attractions and in a unique natural setting.

#4 Mari Ermi beach in Cabras

On the West Coast, more or less right in the middle of the island, lies a place of extraordinary beauty. I am talking about the Sinis Peninsula, a marine protected area of unique beauty.
Definitely worth a visit is the archaeological site of Tharros, very fascinating for both young and old.
Not far from the site stands one of the most beautiful beaches in the area called Is Arutas, a jewel of quartz beach unique in the world, whose sea takes on colors to leave the viewer speechless.
Nevertheless, my choice fell not on this beach, but on Mari Ermi beach, a piece of coastline that rises a few kilometers from Is Arutas.
For what reason?
Very simple, Is Arutas is very frequented by tourists and it might even happen that there is no space there. Mari Ermi, on the other hand, is less well known but has the exact same characteristics as Is Arutas.
A uniquely beautiful sea and a very special beach that is definitely worth seeing.
The beauty of this place makes it worthy of being part of my ranking, but I recommend paying attention to two things.
1. If the Mistral blows forget about this part of the coast. The sea becomes impassable and dangerous.
2. The sea slopes quite steeply, so always pay attention to children in the water.

#5 Pelosa beach in Stintino

Continuing northward on the west coast of Sardinia, one reaches the northernmost tip of that coast of Sardinia, where stands the beautiful Pelosa beach in Stintino.
One actually struggles to find the words to describe this corner of paradise.
A somewhat narrow beach, but with golden sand and a sea of such intense color as can be found in few other places.
The Pelosa is the most beautiful beach in Sardinia, ideal for families as its waters remain very shallow for a long time and are therefore perfect for letting our children swim or simply splash around. A truly magical place that is sure to leave you amazed.
Only one recommendation, the Pelosa beach is among the best known on the island, so during high season it gets really crowded. to really enjoy it go there early in the morning or out of season.

#6 Porto Pollo beach in Palau

Just halfway between Palau and Santa Teresa di Gallura lies Porto Pollo, a long tongue of shoreline that connects the mainland to the island of Gabbiani (or Isuledda).
It is an enchanting beach with waters that remain shallow for a long time and therefore particularly suitable for young children.
The shoreline takes on colors ranging from white to golden, while its waters are transparent and crystal clear.
Porto Pollo is a splendid place to spend splendid moments in the company of the whole family, but one should avoid this area on days that are too windy, as its location is quite exposed to the winds.

#7 Liscia Ruja beach in Arzachena

Liscia Ruja is perhaps the most famous beach in Arzachena, a small and charming village on the Emerald Coast.
It is actually a series of small bays surrounded by junipers and white lilies.
Getting there requires a little more effort, as you have to drive a long dirt road, but upon arrival we will be greatly rewarded by a beautiful landscape and a stunning beach, with deep blue waters that your children will love.

#8 Capriccioli beach in Arzachena

Capriccioli is another beach in Arzachena very well known and loved by tourists in summer. Here, too, we are in the presence of several coves characterized by shallow, sandy bottoms and crystal clear waters.
A real hidden gem of the Emerald Coast among a dense vegetation of Mediterranean maquis, a place where your children will be free to play and swim in a naturalistic context of unique beauty.
Present on the beach are numerous services, such as dinghy rentals and water games, as well as kiosks where you can eat or drink something.

#9 Cala Brandinchi in San Teodoro

On the eastern side, exactly halfway between the Nuoro area and the Costa Smeralda, there is a small and very touristy town named San Teodoro.
The town is a place with a very strong tourist vocation, full of hotels, bed and breakfasts, rental houses and restaurants.
Its main asset is that it is home to one of the most enchanting beaches in the area, called Cala Brandinchi.
The astonishing thing about this beach is that on fine days bathers seem to fly, given the clarity of its waters.
A splendid place and particularly suitable for families, because of its shallow waters at the shore and its welcoming golden beach.

#10 Li Cucutti beach in Budoni

Li Cucutti beach lies in the beautiful town of Budoni, just north of Nuoro on the east coast of Sardinia.
The beach is very wide, quiet and peaceful. Easy to reach, this beach is characterized by very soft sand and some small dunes at the entrance surrounded by typical Mediterranean scrub.
Despite the presence of some resorts nearby, the beach is never overcrowded.
Its waters take on colors ranging from transparent to turquoise, and on the shoreline there are numerous services dedicated to children, such as entertainment and mini clubs.

Practical info for Sardinia

Here you can find the best family hotels and family villages in Sardinia .

Is it better to go to Sardinia by ferry or by plane?
Depending on your needs, you can choose between ferry and plane.
Traveling by plane is definitely shorter and more comfortable, but getting to Sardinia you will have to decide how to get around. Consider that public transportation in Sardewgna is not very efficient; you can think about renting a car. Many villages offer escort service to the airport.

The ferry trip is definitely longer and in some cases uncomfortable, but there are super-equipped ships that can feel like difare a cruise!
To go to the north of the island, the route from Livorno to Golfo aranci is definitely shorter and often cheaper, but there are fewer ships,
To compare schedules and prices the best site is ferry lines, here you can find all the routes and book your trip.
You can also look at Great Fast Ships, there are often attractive deals.
